Lab analysis of damp samples to distinguish rising damp from condensation or penetrating damp. Insurance-grade written report.
What we sample, what we test
Small core samples taken at the affected wall and a control sample from an unaffected wall. Lab tests for chloride, nitrate and sulphate concentrations (the salts that ride with capillary moisture). Results plus an interpreted opinion on rising vs penetrating vs condensation root cause.
When salt analysis matters
Insurer has rejected a damp claim
Lab evidence often re-opens the claim. Subjective surveys alone get rejected; lab data doesn't.
Conflict between two surveyors
An independent salt analysis cuts through the disagreement.
Building work has worsened damp
Establishes whether the new work created the damp or just exposed it.
Pre-purchase due diligence
Written report you can cite during negotiation.
What it costs (indicative)
Fixed price per sample tested. Includes the on-site sampling, lab fees, and the written report. Full pricing.
