Symptoms

Signs you need a plumber, fast

Spotting the early signs saves money. Each of these symptoms is a reason to call a qualified engineer before it becomes an emergency.

⚠️ Sudden drop in water pressure

Often a hidden leak somewhere in your supply pipework. Don't ignore it, small leaks can be wasting tens of thousands of litres a year and slowly destroying joists and floor finishes.

⚠️ Patches of damp on ceilings or walls below pipework

A clear sign of a slow leak. By the time you can see damp, the water has often been running for weeks. Trace and access immediately.

⚠️ Unexplained spike in your water bill

Thames Water bills jumping by 30%+ with no change in usage almost always means a hidden underground or wall-cavity leak. Free check we can do same-day.

⚠️ Banging or whistling pipes (water hammer)

Caused by failing check valves, loose pipework, or excessive supply pressure. Left untreated it weakens joints and can lead to bursts.

⚠️ Slow draining sinks, showers or toilets

Early sign of partial drain blockage. Cheaper to clear at this stage than after a full backup.

⚠️ Reduced hot water flow or temperature

Could be limescale in the cylinder, a failing immersion heater, scale on the heat exchanger, or a failing motorised valve. We diagnose properly before quoting.

⚠️ Discoloured water from taps

Brown water = old galvanised steel pipework corroding. Can stain laundry and is a flag for renewal. Not safe long-term.

⚠️ Sewer smell from drains or toilets

Often a failed waste seal, dried-out trap, or a vent stack issue. Left unchecked, sewer gas can be a health hazard.

How we work

  3. Engineer dispatched with right kitVan stocked for 90% of common faults, copper, push-fit, soldering, valves, traps, seals.

  5. Written quote, fixed price or hourlyYour choice. Either way, signed off in writing before any further work proceeds.
  6. Repair carried out, tested at full pressureEvery repair is pressure-tested before we leave. No callbacks for the same fault.
  7. Itemised invoice with materials transparencyTrade cost + 30% on materials, supplier reference on every line. You can verify it.

London context

Emergency plumbing in London: what makes it different.

London plumbing isn't like plumbing anywhere else in the UK, and our engineers are trained accordingly.

Property age and pipework variety. A single road in Islington can contain Georgian terraces with original lead supply pipes, Victorian conversions with copper pipework retrofitted in the 1970s, and 21st-century new-builds with PEX manifold systems. We carry parts and tooling for all of it.

Hard water and limescale. London sits on chalk aquifers, the water is among the hardest in the UK. Limescale destroys ball valves, blocks shower heads, scale-bonds inside immersion heaters and slowly kills combi boilers. We always assess for scale damage during repair and recommend descaling or water-softener installation where appropriate.

Mains pressure variability. London supply pressure varies from 1 bar in older mid-rise blocks to 6+ bar near pumping stations. We pressure-test before installing high-end taps or sanitaryware to avoid blown cartridges in service.

FAQ

Emergency plumbing: your questions

How fast can a emergency plumber reach me?
Typical response across the M25 is 30 to 60 minutes, often faster in inner London, subject to engineer availability and traffic. Live dispatch, never queued. Times quoted are best-effort targets, not contractual guarantees.
How does emergency plumbing pricing work?
Labour is one flat rate across London and the M25, billed per 30 minutes: from £75 / 30 min (daytime) up to £147 / 30 min (nighttime), with a one-hour minimum then 30-minute increments. There is no callout fee. Domestic prices shown inc VAT, no hidden extras (no parking, fuel, ULEZ or Congestion Charge surcharges). The engineer converts to a fixed-price quote on site after diagnosis where the scope is clear. Materials at trade cost plus 30%, itemised on the invoice. Full rate card.
Do you charge to come out and look?
There is no callout fee, ever. For pre-planned bookings the one-hour minimum labour charge starts when the engineer begins on-site work. For 24/7 emergencies you pay only for the labour at the rate for the time of day, plus any materials. Non-emergency reschedules are free with at least 24 hours' notice.
Are you Gas Safe registered?
Yes. Gas Safe Register number 972173. Verifiable live at gassaferegister.co.uk using that number or any individual engineer's ID.
Do you guarantee the work?
Every job carries a 12-month workmanship guarantee. If something fails inside 12 months for the same fault, we come back at no charge.
