Hard chalk-aquifer water at 270 to 320 ppm CaCO3 – supplied throughout West Berkshire by Thames Water – deposits scale steadily inside copper supply pipework, making pin-hole perforation a predictable long-term outcome on any pre-1980 installation. In Newbury's town-centre conservation area, where much of the pre-1900 terraced stock retains its original buried supply runs, a slow leak can travel considerable distances through rubble-fill sub-floors before it becomes visible at the surface.

Our leak-detection process combines three complementary methods. Thermal imaging identifies temperature differentials at floor and wall surfaces caused by escaping water. Acoustic correlation uses paired sensors to triangulate the precise leak point along a buried pipe by analysing sound-wave travel time – accurate to within a few centimetres, avoiding unnecessary excavation. Where a leak is within a concealed or inaccessible run and acoustic signals are ambiguous, tracer gas (a safe hydrogen-nitrogen blend) is introduced to pinpoint the exit point at ground level. Every completed investigation produces a written, insurance-grade report with annotated photographs, GPS coordinates and a recommended remediation scope.
