Hard chalk-aquifer water at 280 to 330 ppm CaCO3 – supplied across Gravesham by South East Water and Southern Water – deposits scale progressively inside copper and steel supply pipework, and that scale layer changes how a pipe fails: rather than a clean pin-hole, leaks here often develop as slow seeps behind scaled joints, making them acoustically quieter and harder to localise by ear alone. Our surveys for DA11, DA12 and DA13 properties combine three methods to resolve that difficulty.

Thermal imaging identifies temperature anomalies in floors, walls and ceilings caused by water migration, giving us a primary search area without any opening-up. Acoustic correlation then places sensors at accessible fittings and uses time-delay analysis to pinpoint the leak's position along the pipe run to within a few centimetres. Where the signal is masked – under a concrete raft or behind dense blockwork, which is common in Northfleet's wharfside conversions – tracer gas is introduced to the system and detected at surface level.
