Thanet's coastal-strip terraces present a specific drainage challenge: salt-air corrosion attacks cast-iron soil stacks and above-ground inspection fittings from the outside, while the 290 to 330 ppm CaCO3 hardness of Southern Water supplies deposits calcium scale inside the drain runs, narrowing bore over the years.
