Leak detection in Chiltern.

Very hard chalk-aquifer water at 280 to 320 ppm CaCO3 is the defining leak-detection factor across Chiltern. Affinity Water's supply builds scale steadily inside copper supply laterals, and when scale-stressed joints eventually fail – particularly in the older Chesham and Amersham town-centre stock – they fail slowly and silently inside solid flint-and-brick walls where damp is not visible for months. AONB-designation properties throughout HP7, HP8 and HP16 carry additional complexity: ground surveys must avoid disturbing root systems and scheduled features, which rules out speculative excavation.

We use three non-invasive methods in combination. Thermal imaging identifies anomalous temperature signatures through floor screeds and masonry. Acoustic correlation pinpoints supply-pipe leaks by measuring pressure-wave differential across access points. Where the signal is ambiguous – common beneath the clay-capped chalk of the Chesham valley floor – we introduce an inert tracer gas to resolve the exact break point before any ground is opened. Every investigation concludes with an insurance-grade written report: documented methodology, annotated site plans, photographic evidence and a confirmed leak location, accepted by all major insurers and mortgage lenders.
