That hardness matters from the moment water enters a building. Scale accumulates quickly in supply lines, conceals early-stage corrosion in older pipework, and complicates any attempt to trace a leak by sight alone. In central Maidstone and Bearsted, listed-building designations add a further layer of complexity: external pipework alterations require consent, and interventions inside historic fabric must be considered carefully before a spade is lifted.
