Affinity Water's very hard chalk-aquifer supply – consistently 280 to 320 ppm CaCO3 across KT17, KT18 and KT19 – means scale binds to drain walls progressively, narrowing bore and turning low-flow stacks into recurrent blockage points. In Ewell Village's older stock, where some properties pre-date modern mains drainage, original clay runs laid in shallow chalk subsoil have fractured at sockets and suffered root ingress from the mature garden trees characteristic of the area. Stoneleigh's 1930s and 1950s semis frequently present with four-inch salt-glazed laterals that have displaced at joints or collapsed under driveways widened decades after installation.

Every drainage engagement begins with a CCTV camera survey to establish the pipe condition and fall. High-pressure water jetting follows where grease or scale is the primary restriction. Where structural defects are confirmed, no-dig CIPP lining is the first reinstatement route – particularly important in Ewell Village where surface openings carry planning sensitivity.
