The chalk-aquifer geology that makes Affinity Water's supply so hard across Epsom and Ewell also shapes the leak picture: high dissolved-mineral content accelerates pinhole corrosion in copper mains feeds and in the older lead supply stubs still present in some pre-1970 Epsom properties. Unexplained meter movement – a consistent early indicator – is common in the Victorian and inter-war stock around Ewell Village and across the KT18 and KT19 postcode runs where boundary boxes have not been renewed.

Our detection methodology begins with acoustic correlation: hydrophones placed at accessible fittings triangulate pressure-wave signatures along the supply run, narrowing the leak zone to within a metre before any surface is broken. Thermal imaging scans floor and wall surfaces for the temperature differential a slow leak produces in a building structure. Where the pipe run is inaccessible or correlation returns ambiguous results, inert tracer gas is introduced to the pressurised system and traced to surface with a calibrated detector. Once the leak is located, all findings are compiled into a full written report – specific to the property, the pipe material, and the confirmed leak position – suitable for insurance claims and mortgage-lender requirements.
