Drainage in Mole Valley.

The chalk-aquifer geology beneath Mole Valley produces some of the hardest mains water in Surrey, and decades of supply at 280 to 320 ppm CaCO3 leave a measurable legacy inside drain runs. Scale accumulation narrows bore diameters progressively in older clay-pipe laterals, and root ingress through mortar joints is a persistent problem in the Victorian and Edwardian stock concentrated in central Dorking and along the older Leatherhead streets. The 1930s semi-detached belt around Fetcham and Bookham brings its own issues: original 4-inch salt-glazed clay connected to kitchen extensions added in the 1970s and 1980s, often with poorly supported junctions that have settled and cracked.
