Drainage in Reading.

Reading's clay-pipe drainage network in the Victorian terraces of RG1 and RG30 is well past its design life, and root intrusion from the mature street trees that line those inner-Reading streets is the single most common fault we find on CCTV survey. The survey is always the starting point: a push-rod or crawler camera confirms the defect, its location and its severity before any work is quoted.

Where the pipe is structurally sound but heavily fouled, high-pressure water jetting clears the blockage and restores full bore. Where collapse or fracture is confirmed, no-dig CIPP relining is the preferred solution in the older terraces – cured-in-place lining avoids the disruption of excavation through Victorian-era floor voids and narrow side-access passages. Excavation and full pipe replacement remains the correct call for severely displaced joints or section collapse, and we specify that where the survey supports it.

The post-war estates in Earley and Tilehurst present a different profile: plastic-jointed PVCu drainage that has fatigued at push-fit collars, or original cast-iron soil stacks on the converted-flat blocks that have corroded through at the back-inlet gullies.
