Hard chalk-aquifer water at 280 to 330 ppm CaCO3 – supplied across Medway by South East Water and Southern Water – is aggressive to copper pipework over time, and the Victorian and Admiralty-era terrace stock in ME1, ME4, and ME5 still carries original copper supply runs concealed beneath solid floors and behind plaster. Leaks here rarely present as visible damp; they show first as unexplained meter movement or rising damp at skirting level long after the pipe has been losing water slowly.

Our detection surveys use three complementary methods. Thermal imaging identifies temperature anomalies in floors and walls that indicate water tracking through structure. Acoustic correlation pinpoints the leak source along a pressurised pipe run to within a centimetre, avoiding unnecessary opening-up in conservation-area properties around Rochester. Where the pipework is too short or the signal too complex for correlation alone, tracer gas is introduced under low pressure to confirm the precise exit point.
